The Hacienda was founded in the 16th century by Diego Caballero, who was granted the land directly by the Viceroy of New Spain. The warm climate of Morelos made it the perfect paradise for sugar cultivation.

1668 – An Act of Love and Legacy

Unable to have children, Diego and Inés chose a different legacy: they willed the Hacienda as financial support for underprivileged women seeking to enter religious life, where a dowry was required. After Inés’s passing, Diego gave the deed to the property and established the Convent of Santa Inés in Mexico City. The Hacienda thus became the property of the nuns, a symbol of generosity and purpose.
